About the Recipe
This is a relatively easy and customisable way of preserving fruit for slightly longer than if kept fresh which can be done with a variety of fruit including - but not limited to - pears, plums, peaches, apples, etc.

Ingredients
1 packet of pears (usually around 6)
2 star anise
Tablespoon of cinnamon
50g sugar
10g ginger (roughly cut, does not need to be peeled but if keeping the peel, wash)
Teaspoon of nutmeg
Preparation
Prep the pears: peel and half the pears
Prep the syrup: combine all of the ingredients besides the pears with 500ml water
Boil the pears: boil for around 40 minutes, or until a knife passes through the pears with relative ease. Leave to cool in the pot for around an hour
Reduce: remove the pears and store in an airtight container then boil the remaining liquid until syrup consistency.
To serve: pour a little bit of the syrup on the pears and enjoy with a variety of other recipes such as panna cotta, porridge, pancakes, etc.
