About the Recipe
This is a dish from my childhood too, although I am not sure quite how authentically my mum usually made it.
It is a combination of tofu and beef mince that is somewhat stewed and so you can really add whatever you fancy. Usually it is quite spicy, though the spice level can definitely be dialled down. The only part of this dish I would not skip is the soft boiled egg that you can cut in half and garnish with as this is quite a nice touch.

Ingredients
200g minced meat (beef or pork or chicken)
200g tofu cubed
3 spring onions sliced
1 tabelspoon crushed chillis or chilli flakes or chopped fresh chillis
2 tablespoons neutral oil
3 cloves garlic, grated/minced/roughly chopped
Pinch of salt and pepper
For the sauce
1 tablespoon both light and dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
Optional vegetables: onion, carrot, peas.
Preparation
Prepare the meat: add the chilli, garlic, salt and pepper to your meat.
Optionally, boil the tofu for 1 minute and pass through a sieve before cooking
Prepare the sauce by mixing together all the sauce ingredients.
Fry the meat for around 2 minutes before adding the sauce and a cup of water to bring to a boil. If you did not boil your tofu beforehand, add a touch more water and put the tofu in with the water. If you did boil it, add the tofu after 1 minute of simmering.
Serve with freshly cooked warm rice and a sprinkling of spring onions!
